I wish summer would go slower. My new niece is already 6 weeks old, becoming a real baby now. Haven't added much to Etsy lately since I've been preoccupied with my father having a heart attack and triple bypass. He's home and recovering. Weather hasn't been warm enough to enjoy the pool lately. I can add a pic of something I have to add to the shop though.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 226px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiOfplvEfQ_f3OrujreXwUePURVebMmEhz-PFVS9pLE5mRLsynCHenn2YBEpAdOFSbog_W4SLL9BMKNcOYfXdQmgbq9FnzqF6xoP6I1DqilooA6DsfVpCdiLnoGFGuC00uVC7vidvlpaU/s320/aa313+012.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5359839023548236338" />Chronicyarnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04126218606514465645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757395551003974214.post-7687232506916519882009-06-08T08:03:00.004-05:002009-06-08T08:08:04.806-05:00Early summer eventsAfter much anticipation, summer has finally arrived. I want to go outside and start cleaning up the flower beds and digging in the dirt. I keep visually arranging and replanting things that were getting too crowded last year. I don't really need to order any new plants but I keep going through the magazines and finding things I "need". I miss crocheting outside too, so warm and relaxing. The cats are getting anxious too. I guess I will have to settle on some pics from last year to tide me over.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8ivSOv66HbxWWSY2kVWE7N57TZY0sBoEKh-U-RaS0YZMvqCp22IKD12BgAZFZXu4RnAqhUHmsEUvUIw7FOgX_-ATLMGLaSG3oaT_z7ARxU5Lu8nSeoB4ObIdsDohaOAScO6kHCLEBnvs/s320/aa268+041.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303771209797463602" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtd_0__XiljDK3pnV1JGI1AgJMElYRmGG45AupROfycYNbI41R3LXPaaqNp7dbkkpk7-9J2OEDSe0RTglTe7DWqORtKyOvQAJalez92z079ttVLW4FSWntzGOZZ2NDybpSlT-nWCSknmM/s320/aa263+042.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303770717930241138" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 312px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHewQwIG0mW2V5BwoXzmU9g7c-UV7Fkq1r10vPobuO4E2HDgUYSTh6A9OLsp4t40ewGNlIZ5GKR_9W_qi51wZIEMQAezNUCyEFWvShvOA5aKY53ENCMS0joAXdhZ1vw9kd8qEe4zPCHPE/s320/aa271+005.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5303770126240262162" />Chronicyarnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04126218606514465645noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757395551003974214.post-57157766063505164142009-02-10T08:07:00.000-06:002009-02-10T08:09:30.668-06:00Guidance on the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) for Small Businesses, Resellers, Crafters and CharitiesTable B ‐ These materials or components can be used (separately or in combination) and sold (provided they have not been treated or altered or undergone any processing that could result in the addition of lead):
•
Precious gemstones: diamond, ruby, sapphire or emeralds
•
Semiprecious stones provided that the mineral or material is not based on lead and is not associated with any mineral based on lead
•
Natural or cultured pearls
•
Wood
•
Other natural materials including coral, amber, feathers, fur, and untreated leather
•
Surgical steel
•
Gold, of at least 10 karats
•
Silver, at least 925/1000 pure
•
Platinum, palladium, rhodium, osmium, iridium, and ruthenium
•
Yarn, dyed or undyed
•
Dyed or undyed textiles (cotton, wool, hemp, nylon, etc.), including children’s fabric products, such as baby blankets, and non‐metallic thread and trim. These requirements are part of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA), which added certification and testing requirements for all products subject to CPSC standards or bans.

Significant to makers of children’s products, the vote by the Commission provides limited relief from the testing and certification requirements which go into effect on February 10, 2009 for new total lead content limits (600 ppm), phthalates limits for certain products (1000 ppm), and mandatory toy standards, among other things. Manufacturers and importers – large and small – of children’s products will not need to test or certify to these new requirements, but will need to meet the lead and phthalates limits, mandatory toy standards and other requirements.
The decision by the Commission gives the staff more time to finalize four proposed rules which could relieve certain materials and products from lead testing and to issue more guidance on when testing is required and how it is to be conducted.
The stay will remain in effect until February 10, 2010, at which time a Commission vote will be taken to terminate the stay.

Yeah!!!Chronicyarnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04126218606514465645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757395551003974214.post-35818452692261054242009-01-28T08:19:00.001-06:002009-01-28T08:21:41.064-06:00CPSIAWe are blogging together to inform everyone of the damage CPSIA is going to do to everyone, not only sellers.

As parents and concerned citizens I’m sure most of us at one time or another have been confronted with the question of lead poisoning. But have you asked yourself what your government is doing to protect your children from lead contained in toys? The answer? They're banning toys, taking books from schools and libraries, hurting low income families, killing entrepreneurial spirit and risking putting the economy in an even greater depression than we've seen in decades. I'd like to introduce you to their solution: the CPSIA.

Do you know about the CPSIA? No? Then I ask you to take a few minutes to find out about it.

The CPSIA stands for Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, a new set of laws that will come into effect on 10 February, 2009 and will impact many, many people in a negative way. Make no mistake, this is very real. View it for yourself. If Forbes, the American Library Association and numerous other media are paying attention, perhaps you should too.

How will these new laws affect you? Well, here are a few examples:

To the Parents of Young Students:
Due to the new law, expect to see the cost of school supplies sky rocket. While those paper clips weren't originally intended for your student to use, they will need to be tested now that your 11-year-old needs them for his school project. This law applies to any and all school supplies (textbooks, pencils, crayons, paper, etc.) being used by children under 12.

To the Avid Reader:
Due to the new law, all children's books will be pulled from library and school shelves, as there is no exemption for them. That’s okay though, there's always television. Our children don’t need to learn the love of reading after all.
Article from the American Library Association http://www.wo.ala.org/districtdispatch/?p=1322

To the Lover of All Things Handmade:
Due to the new law, you will now be given a cotton ball and an instruction manual so you can make it yourself since that blanket you originally had your eye on for $50 will now cost you around $1,000 after it's passed testing. It won't even be the one-of-a-kind blanket you were hoping for. Items are destroyed in the testing process making one-of-a-kind items virtually impossible. So that gorgeous hand-knit hat you bought your child this past winter won’t be available next winter.

To the Environmentalist:
Due to the new law, all items in non-compliance will now be dumped into our already overflowing landfills. Imagine not just products from the small business owners, but the Big Box Stores as well. You can't sell it so you must toss it. Or be potentially sued for selling it. You can't even give them away. If you are caught, it is still a violation.

To the Second-Hand Shopper:
Due to the new law, you will now need to spend $20 for that brand new pair of jeans for your 2-year old, rather than shop at the Goodwill for second hand. Many resale shops are eliminating children's items all together to avoid future lawsuits.

To the Entrepreneur:
Due to this new law, you will be forced to adhere to strict testing of your unique products or discontinue to make and/or sell them. Small businesses will be likely to be unable to afford the cost of testing and be forced to close up shop. Due to the current economic state, you'll have to hope for the best when it comes to finding a new job in Corporate America.

To the Antique Toy Collector:
Due to the new law, you'd better start buying now because it's all going to private collection and will no longer be available to purchase. “Because the new rules apply retroactively, toys and clothes already on the shelf will have to be thrown out if they aren't certified as safe.” http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123189645948879745.html

To the American Economy:
Already struggling under an economy that hasn’t been this weak in decades, the American economy will be hit harder with the inevitable loss of jobs and revenues from suppliers, small businesses and consumers. The required testing is far too costly and restrictive for small businesses or individuals to undertake.

To the Worldwide Economy:
Due to this new law, many foreign manufacturers have already pulled out of the US market. You can imagine the impact of this on their businesses.

If you think this is exaggerating, here is a recent article from Forbes
http://www.forbes.com/2009/01/16/cpsia-safety-toys-oped-cx_wo_0116olson.html

And for those of you prepared to be stupefied and boggled, The New Law
http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/cpsia.html

Did you know? I actually recorded and watched some of the coverage today for the first time. I was amazed at the amount of people gathered there in the cold who as far back as they were, there's no way they could have seen anything other than the TV screens. Obama has a lot of work to do to try to fix the country. I don't envy him at all. My kids don't see what the big deal is or why it is historic. I'm glad they feel like that, just see another person. Good luck Obama!Chronicyarnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04126218606514465645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757395551003974214.post-11172178391839929272009-01-04T16:25:00.005-06:002009-01-04T16:29:38.446-06:00New shop banner<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 26px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhOO3EojEcE4v97DqTe5Y-gtwuZLaLd6JRHRdUTiGkqCdRBLXJFHZtqT4e8PsDdNh8BuRVHPoRUKYpAF3158o2x5VRpH9Ge-cSRXeWH_8nPtTfkKVaV1LETyqoG3DiLeY2rdD9p3TdP6o/s200/Chronic+yarner+banner.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5287569053863060514" />
I finally got my first professionally made banner. This is intended to keep children safe from lead and phthalates but instead will put small business owners out of business. Large corporations are also going to suffer. Haven't had a sale on Etsy since November 20. Beginning to get concerned about the new CPSIA law affecting all children's products beginning in February. This would make all sellers get their stuff tested if it is for 12 and under, tested for lead, etc., at $100+ for each yarn color, new batch, etc., essentially putting all small businesses out of business. I have my fingers crossed for a change in the law before then.Chronicyarnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04126218606514465645noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757395551003974214.post-72838642164695809552008-11-26T14:11:00.002-06:002008-12-16T11:38:03.766-06:00Free shippingI'm starting my inventory reduction/thanksgiving weekend sale early by offering free shipping worldwide through Monday, Dec. 1.Chronicyarnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04126218606514465645noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757395551003974214.post-60113239718883224962008-11-21T21:22:00.003-06:002008-12-16T11:38:57.775-06:00LollishopsI've been trying to diversify my selling venues. I have joined Artfire, Shophandmade, 1000markets, bigcartel, handmade fusion, made it myself, and got accepted to lollishops. I don't know why I'm excited about the last one. I think it was the application process and having to be accepted. Woo hoo. Let's hope some sales come from these new places. I've also begun twittering and updated my indiepublic page. Fingers crossed.Chronicyarnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04126218606514465645noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757395551003974214.post-8787384936501350242008-11-12T11:46:00.000-06:002008-11-12T11:49:49.722-06:00I'm trying to understand the point of blogging. I guess what confuses me is why random strangers would care about what I or anyone thinks or is doing, but obviously people do or blogging wouldn't be so popular. So, anyway, I'll try it. It might be better than talking to the cats.

I've been relisting alot in my shop. I have 200 items in there and really would like to sell some before adding new. I don't know how large is too large when it comes to an online store. I do wish I had more exposure so maybe this is the way to go.

More later, I'm supposed to be working.Chronicyarnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04126218606514465645noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1757395551003974214.post-13480201712554924812008-06-25T09:37:00.000-05:002008-06-25T09:40:25.340-05:00Chronicyarnerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04126218606514465645noreply@blogger.com0
